Iran and Houthis expand military training networks in Sudan

Reports indicate that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Yemen’s Houthi movement are expanding military networks within Sudan. These activities involve transferring technical expertise and training Islamist factions aligned with the Sudanese army in the production and operation of drones, missiles, electronic jamming systems, and reconnaissance equipment.

Training operations are reportedly taking place at several locations, including the Jebel Surkab mountainous area near Omdurman, which allegedly contains underground workshops and storage facilities. Sources claim Sudanese forces are being trained to produce the “Safrouq” drone, a system resembling Iran’s Ababil-T design. Other activities are linked to the Flamingo naval facility near Port Sudan.

Logistical routes have reportedly been established to move personnel and equipment from northern Sudan to the Red Sea, with connections to the Eritrean port of Massawa and facilities in Somalia. Analysts suggest this represents a shift in Iran’s strategy, moving from merely supplying weapons to embedding the knowledge required for local production within the “Axis of Resistance.”
