Iran and Iraq sign security memorandum during official visit

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has reaffirmed that Iran does not interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq. During a three-day official visit to Iraq, Ghalibaf met with high-level Iraqi officials to discuss security, political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

A comprehensive memorandum of understanding regarding security and border security was signed between the two nations. Ghalibaf stated that Iran supports any agreements reached by Iraqi political groups and authorities within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and national independence.

Ghalibaf also noted that discussions touched upon the presence of foreign coalition forces, suggesting that Iraq is on the verge of a final withdrawal of these troops to restore full sovereignty. Regarding economic ties, he mentioned that while sanctions have pressured both countries, they also present opportunities for closer cooperation. An Iraqi Chamber of Commerce delegation is expected to visit Iran within the next two weeks to further these economic discussions.
