Iran and Oman agree on temporary Strait of Hormuz shipping corridor FAST-MOVING

Iran and Oman have agreed to a phased framework to establish a temporary joint navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. The agreement includes a joint project to clear the waterway of mines to restore safe navigation in the strategic channel, which previously handled one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before conflict began in February.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi expressed optimism following consultations in Tehran with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, noting that technical negotiations will continue to reach a permanent solution. However, Iran has indicated that the waterway will not fully reopen until the United States fulfills commitments under an interim peace agreement signed in June.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. Navy has already removed and detonated all mines in the international waters of the strait. He issued a warning that any new attempts to lay explosives would be met with immediate destruction, noting that the U.S. Space Force is monitoring the area. Despite these developments, maritime passage remains perilous; an oil tanker was reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile near the entrance to the strait on Tuesday.
