Iran and Qatar resume maritime trade after five‑month suspension

Maritime commerce between Iran and Qatar has restarted after an almost five‑month halt. Iranian commercial attaché in Doha, Abbas Abdolkhani, announced that ship traffic between Iran’s Dayyer (Bandar Deyr) port and Qatar’s Al Ruwais port is operational again following coordination between the Iranian embassy and Qatari authorities. The resumption follows a memorandum of understanding signed last month by Tehran and Washington that ended a four‑month conflict in the Gulf and called for a return to pre‑war shipping levels.

The revival is expected to lower transport costs, shorten delivery times and boost trade in food, construction materials and other essential goods. Iranian exporters have also begun clearing goods through the United Arab Emirates’ Jebel Ali port, signalling broader regional trade normalisation. While shipping in the Strait of Hormuz remains subject to some restrictions, the restart of the Dayyer‑Al Ruwais route is viewed as a concrete step toward stabilising Gulf commerce after recent hostilities.
