Iran and Russia discuss strategic partnership and regional security
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held comprehensive talks to discuss bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, and regional crises. Araghchi emphasized that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by their respective leaders has significantly strengthened ties, noting positive progress in economic and commercial cooperation.
The discussions included continued collaboration within frameworks such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the Eurasian Economic Union. On regional security, Araghchi addressed the conflicts in Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen, calling for an end to Israeli attacks on Palestinians. He also expressed serious concern regarding attacks on ship and port infrastructure in the Caspian Sea, stating such developments cause irreparable damage to regional peace.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi attributed regional insecurity to actions by the United States and Israel. He advocated for a security architecture managed by regional countries without foreign interference. Furthermore, Araghchi criticized European policies, suggesting that Europe is paying the price for miscalculations and is complicit in attacks against Iran alongside the United States.
