Iran and US exchange disputes over sanctions and reparations

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following disputes over economic sanctions and financial reparations. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei criticized Washington’s reliance on sanctions, describing them as a “compulsive addiction” rather than a coherent policy. Baghaei argued that the U.S. increases sanctions whenever they fail to achieve their goals, stating that this approach has become a “habit” rather than diplomacy.

In response to Iranian demands for reparations following recent military conflicts, U.S. President Donald Trump has countered by demanding compensation from Tehran. Trump stated that Iran should pay reparations to the families of hundreds of thousands of protesters killed during domestic crackdowns over the last five decades. He also cited the need for compensation regarding individuals killed or injured in attacks attributed to Iran, specifically referencing the attack on the USS Cole and other American military losses.
