Iran Announces Six-Day Funeral Schedule for Late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

Iran’s Martyrs’ Headquarters has detailed a six‑day funeral program for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, running from July 4 to July 9, 2026. The ceremonies will begin with two farewell events on July 4‑5 at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla in Tehran, followed by a central procession through the capital on July 6. The coffin will be accompanied by four other martyrs – Dr. Mosbah al‑Hoda Bagheri, Sayyeda Bushra Hosseini Khamenei, Zahra Haddad Adel and Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani – and will be taken to Qom for prayers on July 7. On July 8 the cortege will travel to Iraq for services in Najaf and Karbala, with final burial scheduled for July 9 at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.

International delegations are expected, including a Pakistani delegation confirmed to attend. The funeral arrangements also note the participation of several members of Khamenei’s family and anticipate a massive public turnout, prompting extensive security preparations. The events are presented as a signal of regime stability under the newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei following the February 28 US‑Israeli strike that killed the former leader.
