Mohsen Rezaei appointed Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council FAST-MOVING

Mohsen Rezaei, a veteran former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been appointed as the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). The appointment was announced through dual decrees: President Masoud Pezeshkian named Rezaei as Secretary, while Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei appointed him as his personal representative to the council.

Rezaei, 71, commanded the IRGC from 1981 to 1997, serving through much of the Iran-Iraq War. He previously held high-ranking roles, including serving as a member of the Expediency Discernment Council and Vice President for Economic Affairs. His appointment follows the resignation of Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr from the SNSC secretary position. Zolghadr has been appointed by the Supreme Leader as a political adviser.

Analysts suggest this move signals a consolidation of influence for the IRGC "old guard" within Iran's security architecture. The reshuffle occurs amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing conflicts involving the United States and Israel.
