Iranian missile and drone attacks cripple Kuwait’s power and desalination plants

Iran launched a series of missile and drone strikes against U.S. bases and civilian infrastructure in Kuwait, extending to Bahrain and Jordan. Over four consecutive nights the attacks hit radar sites, Patriot air‑defence systems, and a U.S. F‑15 aircraft, while also striking multiple power stations and coastal desalination facilities in Kuwait. The strikes sparked fires, caused material damage and forced the temporary shutdown of several generating units.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said the attacks threatened the country’s electricity supply and the desalination plants that provide about 90 % of its drinking water. Authorities ordered citizens to reduce electricity consumption, especially air‑conditioning, to keep the grid operational 24 hours a day. Residents reported sirens, explosions and psychological stress as the summer temperatures approached 50 °C.

The United States condemned the attacks on its forces, and Qatar issued a statement calling the strikes a violation of sovereignty and a risk to regional security. Iran said the operations were retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iranian territory.
