Iranian missile strikes on Kuwait power and desalination plants force electricity rationing
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and army have launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. military assets in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, including bases such as Camp Doha, Ali Al Salem and radar installations. The same campaign has repeatedly struck Kuwait’s power‑generation and seawater‑desalination facilities, causing fires, temporary shutdowns of units and a growing risk to the nation’s water supply.
Kuwaiti authorities responded by urging residents to curb electricity use – especially air‑conditioning – to keep the grid operational amid repeated strikes on power plants. Civil‑servant Nasser Al‑Dhafiri described the daily attacks as creating “immense psychological pressure” and emphasized that maintaining essential services is now a shared responsibility. Iran’s foreign minister warned of an “eye for an eye” policy, while the United States has continued nightly airstrikes against Iranian targets.
The attacks have continued for several consecutive days, with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy reporting fires and damage at multiple plants, and Jordan confirming the destruction of a U.S. THAAD radar and other defense systems.
