Iran to restructure electronic subsidies for millions
The Iranian government is reviewing a plan to restructure electronic subsidies, which could result in approximately 10 million people being removed from the recipient list. This measure aims to target support more effectively by identifying and excluding wealthier households through financial and tax data, thereby redirecting resources to lower-income families.
Simultaneously, officials have announced an increase in subsidy credits for approximately 44 million people starting in October. Initial estimates suggest that low-income households may see an increase of up to 500,000 tomans, while middle-income groups could receive up to 300,000 tomans. Individuals covered by the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation and the State Welfare Organization are expected to receive these increases automatically.
Some citizens have expressed concern that the proposed increases may not sufficiently offset the rising costs of essential goods.
