Iran calls for regional cooperation to secure the Strait of Hormuz

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized that sustainable security in the Persian Gulf and its waterways depends on cooperation and the fulfillment of responsibilities among regional states. Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for both regional and global economies, Pezeshkian stated that the sea is an integral part of Iran’s history, identity, and vital energy resources.

Pezeshkian called for a responsible approach to maintain stability and protect the interests of regional nations. He noted that the Iranian government aims to facilitate maritime development by simplifying procedures, improving infrastructure, and encouraging both public and private sector investment in maritime technologies and security standards.

In a broader geopolitical context, analysts observe that tensions in the Persian Gulf continue to involve Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. While Iran has signaled a willingness to negotiate key issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, regional actors like Saudi Arabia face complex challenges in balancing neutrality with security needs amidst ongoing US-Iran friction.
