Iran imports 200,000 tons of red meat to stabilize market

Iran will import roughly 200,000 tonnes of red meat this year, covering up to 20 % of domestic demand, to keep the market balanced and prices stable. The plan was announced by the Secretary of the Association of Meat Suppliers and Distributors of Iran, who said the imports are part of a food‑security strategy.

All shipments are subject to strict oversight by Iran’s Veterinary Organization, which conducts multi‑layer health and microbiological checks and requires on‑site inspection teams. New European Union health standards now affect every supplying country except Australia. Brazil, a major supplier, exports meat to more than 170 nations and operates under the Federal Inspection Service (SIF), a highly stringent inspection regime.
