Iran claims MQ-1 drone shoot-downs amid regional tensions
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have intercepted and destroyed two MQ-1 drones near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. This marks the fourth drone of this type the IRGC reports shooting down in recent days, utilizing a newly deployed advanced air defense system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
In a separate development regarding the regional conflict, the Chinese government has denied allegations that it provided satellite imagery to Iran to facilitate missile and drone attacks against a United States military base in Jordan. Beijing described reports suggesting Chinese entities supplied imagery used in the July 17 strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base as “unfounded.”
These incidents occur amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States. Following large-scale strikes by the U.S. and Israel against Iranian infrastructure in February, Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks against Israeli and American targets, contributing to broader regional instability.
