Iran claims self-sufficiency in nuclear power plant construction
Behrouz Kamaliondi, spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, announced that Iran's nuclear industry has reached a stage of full maturity. Speaking on the sidelines of the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in South Korea, Kamaliondi stated that the country has achieved self-sufficiency in the field of constructing nuclear power plants, noting that political pressures have not halted progress in the sector.
Kamaliondi highlighted achievements across several areas, including the fuel cycle, plant construction, and nuclear safety. He emphasized that nuclear energy is a vital option for low-emission electricity production, particularly as global demand rises due to the expansion of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and the electrification of transport.
Furthermore, Iran is working to sign a protocol with Russia to accelerate cooperation regarding the construction of small and modular nuclear reactors. Kamaliondi also noted the environmental benefits of existing infrastructure, stating that the Bushehr nuclear power plant has helped avoid approximately 86 million tons of pollutants and saved 132 million barrels of oil.
