Iran claims three pilots are held captive in Qatar
Iran's General Staff has announced that three Iranian military pilots are being held captive by Qatari forces. The pilots, identified as Javad Salehi, Abdol-Majid Dashtian, and Emran Behrushian, have reportedly been in detention for approximately six months.
The incident stems from a March operation in which two Iranian Su-24 fighter jets were downed by air defense systems during a mission near a military base in Qatar. While one pilot, Majid Kazemi, was killed in the incident and his body later returned to Iran, the other three survived by using ejection seats and were subsequently captured.
Brigadier General Mohammad Bagherzadeh, Commander of the Search Committee for the Missing, has accused Qatar of violating international law and the Geneva Conventions by denying the pilots contact with their families or Iranian officials. Iran has formally requested the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to intervene, conduct health assessments, and facilitate the pilots' release. As of the latest reports, Qatari authorities have not provided immediate confirmation regarding the detention.
