Iran closes Strait of Hormuz, says it will stay shut until US ends interventions
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing U.S. naval interventions and ships attempting unauthorized routes as security threats. The IRGC warned that any vessel disregarding the warning would be met with fire, and declared that the waterway will remain closed until U.S. actions cease and the sovereignty of coastal states is respected.
The IRGC also warned that continued U.S. interference could trigger larger disruptions to global oil and natural‑gas markets. Earlier, U.S. Central Command reported a series of attacks on Iranian targets, after which Iran launched missile and drone strikes on U.S. facilities in Bahrain and an air‑radar installation in Oman. Iran emphasized that the reopening of the Strait depends solely on the end of U.S. operations in the area.
