Iran Commission approves Strait of Hormuz security and naming measures

The Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has approved key articles of a strategic plan aimed at ensuring security and progress in the Strait of Hormuz.

Article 10 of the plan mandates that the construction, operation, and development of information technology and communication infrastructure, including fiber optics, within the Strait of Hormuz area must receive approval from competent Iranian authorities. Executive regulations for this article are to be prepared within three months of the law taking effect by the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, and the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Article 12 requires the mandatory use of the full name ‘Persian Gulf’ in all negotiations, treaties, agreements, publications, documents, and communications related to vessels and fleets. Additionally, the Commission discussed Article 13, which concerns the application of Iranian regulations to vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz in cases where they fail to comply with established rules; however, a vote on this specific article has not yet been held.
