Iran condemns US strikes and says Strait of Hormuz MoU in crisis
Iran’s foreign ministry denounced recent US attacks, accusing Washington of disrupting global commercial shipping and violating the United Nations Charter. It warned Gulf states that any logistical support for the US would drag them into an illegal war and declared the memorandum of understanding with the United States on reopening the Strait of Hormuz to be in a "crisis phase".
Iranian military spokespeople reiterated that Iran will not allow US interference in the strait, pledged retaliation against any US military action that bypasses Iran‑designated routes, and warned that cooperation with the United States would be treated as an act of war. The statements came after former US President Donald Trump claimed US “guardian” status over the Hormuz chokepoint, announced a renewed maritime blockade targeting only Iranian vessels, and imposed a 20% levy on transiting cargo while insisting the strait remains open to all other nations.
