Iran conducts drone strikes on Komala Kurdish group in Iraq

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps launched drone strikes targeting the headquarters of the Komala Kurdish separatist group in the Balisan region of Iraq's Kurdistan region.

This escalation follows a 2023 agreement between Baghdad and Tehran intended to secure shared borders and neutralize Kurdish opposition groups. While the agreement initially reduced tensions, Iran has resumed strikes against Kurdish opposition groups stationed in northern Iraq.

Tehran accuses these groups of involvement in attacks within Iran and serving the interests of Israel and Western nations. Recently, the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad announced an agreement with Iraq to either extradite members of these groups to Iran or expel them from the Kurdistan region.
