Iran's Speaker Ghalibaf on Khamenei's Death Announcement
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was confirmed about an hour after the bombing. He and Ali Larijani, head of the Supreme National Security Council, decided to announce the news at dawn, scheduling the public disclosure for 8 a.m. the following day and calling citizens to take to the streets. The plan was altered when foreign media reported the death around 12:30 a.m., prompting the leaders to move the announcement forward.
Ghalibaf also emphasized a four‑field strategy—military, diplomatic, service and street—to strengthen Iran, noting that the country fought for 40 days while Hezbollah fought for 104 days, achieving victory. He declared that Iran has won the war and must now consolidate that victory, linking national unity to the principle of wilayat. The successor to the late leader is identified as his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, whose statements are read on television.
