Iran conflict spurs renewable energy push in Asia‑Africa as Trump vows massive strike response

More than four months into the U.S.–Israeli war against Iran, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz cut over one‑fifth of global LNG supplies, sending natural‑gas prices in Europe and Asia up more than 50 % and lifting oil prices after President Trump declared the cease‑fire over. In response, several Asian and African nations are accelerating solar‑panel imports, battery storage and electric‑vehicle adoption to lessen reliance on imported fossil fuels. Chinese solar‑panel exports rose over 80 % in March and the country shipped more than two million electric cars between January and May, helping avoid an estimated 1.7 million barrels of oil per day.

Amid the heightened tension, former U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Truth Social that the United States is ready to launch “1,000 missiles” and “decimate” Iran if an assassination attempt occurs, describing the cease‑fire as finished. Recent strikes have killed at least 14 people and injured 78, while the United States says it remains open to diplomatic talks. The dispute has also slowed maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments.
