Iran considers November for local council elections

Iranian lawmakers and election officials are discussing the scheduling of upcoming Islamic City and Village Council elections. Proposals suggest holding the elections in November, potentially in three stages across different provinces on three consecutive Fridays: November 8, 15, and 22.

According to parliamentary representatives, the Supreme National Security Council previously postponed elections that were originally slated for May, suggesting they take place two months after the definitive end of conflict. While executive and supervisory bodies have reported full readiness regarding logistics, equipment, and electronic infrastructure, a final decision from the Supreme National Security Council is still pending.

Officials noted that while the infrastructure for fully electronic voting is prepared and has undergone pilot testing in some provinces, security considerations and the need for a dedicated campaign period for candidates remain key factors in determining the final dates.
