Iran criticizes US sanctions at United Nations
At a United Nations General Assembly meeting, Iran's Ambassador and Chargé d'Affaires, Gholamhossein Darzi, expressed support for Cuba and called for the removal of unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States. Darzi characterized these measures as “economic terrorism” and described them as coercive actions that violate international law and the UN Charter.
He argued that such unilateral sanctions serve as tools for collective punishment, undermining human rights, peace, and the right to development. Darzi noted that the decades-long blockade of Cuba is an illegal and inhumane practice that imposes significant suffering on the Cuban people under the pretext of promoting democracy.
In a separate context regarding regional cooperation, Hojatollah Soltani, the former Iranian Ambassador to Venezuela, emphasized the potential for enhanced cultural and economic ties between Iran and Latin American nations. He noted that while political challenges exist, the economic needs of both regions are complementary, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, raw materials, and industrial exchange. Soltani stressed the importance of cultural diplomacy and a deeper understanding of Latin American societies to build trust and accurate perceptions of Iran.
