Iran accuses US of addiction to economic sanctions
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized the United States for what he describes as a “compulsive addiction” to economic sanctions. Baqaei argued that Washington resorts to sanctions whenever it is unable to achieve its objectives through diplomacy, and subsequently increases the intensity of these measures when they fail to produce results.
These remarks follow comments from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who stated that economic sanctions are “suffocating” Iran. Bessent also noted that the Iranian economy relies on digital assets and shadow banking networks to maintain operations.
In response to recent sanctions targeting financial networks, Iran has warned that the US reliance on economic pressure may ultimately hinder its own ability to find a diplomatic exit from the ongoing crisis.
