Iran declares three‑day holiday for Ali Khamenei's funeral

Iranian authorities announced a three‑day public holiday in Tehran province from 4 July to 6 July to accommodate the funeral rites of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The capital will largely shut down as security forces oversee the ceremonies at the Great Mosque of Tehran, with the burial scheduled for 9 July in the holy city of Mashhad.

The announcement follows the February 28 assassination of the 86‑year‑old leader in a joint U.S.–Israeli airstrike that also killed members of his family. The state‑organized mourning is being presented as a national rallying point, emphasizing the political and religious significance of the leader’s death.
