Iran Denies Trump’s Claim of Request to Halt Planned Strike on Hormuz

Iran’s officials rejected President Donald Trump’s assertion that Tehran asked the United States to suspend a planned military strike and agreed to a deal that would immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media called the claim “completely false” and a “new lie,” emphasizing that the armed forces remain on high alert.

Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States had been ready to launch the operation but chose to cancel it after Iran and other Middle Eastern countries allegedly requested a pause to allow diplomatic negotiations. He said the proposed agreement would include the full reopening of the Hormuz Strait and measures to address Iran’s nuclear programme, adding that Israel supported the decision. The conflicting statements highlight ongoing tensions over the strategically vital waterway that carries a large share of global oil exports.
