Iran denounces US, Israel, Argentina dissent at UN votes and accuses US of war crimes in Hormozgan

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei pointed to a consistent pattern in recent United Nations General Assembly votes where the United States, Israel and Argentina were the only countries to oppose the majority. He cited four resolutions – the ninth review of the Global Counter‑Terrorism Strategy (1 July 2026), a resolution recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity (25 March 2026), and two December 2025 resolutions on trafficking and human‑rights – each adopted by an overwhelming majority with only those three states voting against.

Separately, Iran’s UN ambassador Saeed Iravani sent a letter to the UN Secretary‑General and the Security Council demanding immediate action against what he described as U.S. war crimes in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province. He said U.S. strikes on 16‑17 July 2026 killed and wounded civilians, destroyed critical transport routes such as the Bandar Abbas‑Lar corridor, and damaged infrastructure in the Kahurestan area of Bandar Khamir, violating international humanitarian law and the UN Charter.
