Iran announces major natural gas discovery in Fars province
Iran has announced the discovery of a major natural gas field in the southern Fars province. According to Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, the reserves are estimated at approximately 7.5 trillion cubic feet (over 200 billion cubic meters), with a recoverable portion of 73%.
Paknejad noted that the find consists of ‘sweet gas,’ which contains minimal hydrogen sulfide. This characteristic is expected to lower both development and operational costs. The scale of the discovery is being compared to a single phase of the South Pars field, which could potentially provide 15 years of supply.

Military strikes by the United States and Israel have reportedly damaged approximately one-quarter of Iran's gas capacity. While repairs are underway at the South Pars field—with 70% of operations currently restored—full reconstruction is expected to take several years.
This energy news coincides with heightened economic tensions, as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has threatened Iran with an ‘economic D-Day,’ describing it as a massive financial offensive against the nation.
