Iran dismisses U.S. economic sanctions targeting five vital sectors

The United States Treasury Department has launched an operation targeting five vital sectors to isolate the Iranian economy and sever its global financial connections. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the objective is to cut off Iran's economic lifelines.

In response, Iranian negotiating chief Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf dismissed the U.S. threats, claiming that no one believes the American boasts and that the U.S. lacks the economic capacity to further restrict its international relations. Ghalibaf noted that Iran's trading partners have signaled they do not value these American statements.

Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh expressed readiness for the expanded sanctions, describing them as an “economic terrorist attack.” He asserted that Iran possesses its own tools to respond and noted that major partners like China and Russia have not accepted the U.S. measures.
