Iran dismisses U.S. threat of intensified economic warfare

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed the United States' recent announcement of an intensified economic pressure campaign against Iran, stating it will fail like previous policies. Araghchi noted that past efforts, including the 'history's toughest sanctions' and 'maximum pressure' campaigns, did not achieve their objectives.

The remarks follow a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump, who described a forthcoming campaign against any country cooperating with Iran as an 'unprecedented level of economic warfare and isolation.' Trump referred to this move as 'Economic D-Day.'

Iranian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, characterized the move as an attempt to mask Washington's previous failures in military and diplomatic spheres. The tension follows the expiration of a 60-day period established by a Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18, intended to lead to a final agreement to end regional conflicts. The future of these negotiations remains uncertain following recent escalations in tension.
