Iran Energy Minister announces end of electricity outages next week
Iran's Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, announced that electricity outages are expected to end by next week. He noted that while the summer was challenging, cooperation from the public and the electricity industry helped manage the situation. Aliabadi emphasized that achieving a balanced grid requires optimized consumption rather than just increasing production, noting that national production capacity has reached approximately 102,000 MW.
In Kermanshah, the inauguration of the Dalahu combined cycle power plant marks a significant step toward regional self-sufficiency, allowing the province to potentially export electricity to neighboring areas. The province currently produces 2,300 MW against a demand of less than 1,300 MW.
Efforts to secure the grid are ongoing across various provinces. In Khuzestan, authorities reported the removal of 21,000 illegal connections and 1,700 unauthorized cryptocurrency mining devices through the ‘Mahtab’ project. In Tehran, officials reported a 3% decrease in electricity consumption compared to last year and identified 60,000 cases of electricity theft. Meanwhile, in Lorestan, electricity distribution companies have issued potential emergency load management schedules due to heatwaves and high demand.
