Iran environmental reports highlight pollution and wildlife concerns
Recent environmental reports from Iran indicate significant ecological challenges, including severe air pollution, water scarcity, and the drying of wetlands. In Masjed Soleyman and Abadan, air quality indices reached 500. Additionally, more than one-third of the Chaghakhor wetland has dried up, and over seven hectares of reeds in the Hassanlu wetland were destroyed by fire.
Wildlife impacts were also noted, including the death of 13 migratory flamingos near the Naibandan wildlife refuge due to high-voltage power line electrocution. Conversely, there were positive sightings of endangered species, such as two Asiatic cheetahs in the Miandasht wildlife refuge and several sightings of the Persian leopard in Bamou National Park, Khosh-Yilaq, and Kalahan-Gazi areas.
Other reported issues include illegal hunting, timber smuggling, land subsidence, and threats to soil and water resources from industrial waste and sewage.
