Execution of Iranian Prisoner Ishaq Sistani in Ferdows Prison

Iran carried out the death sentence of Ishaq Sistani, a 40‑year‑old truck driver from Sarakhs, at Ferdows Prison. Sistani had been convicted by the Revolutionary Court for drug‑related offenses and sentenced to hanging; the execution was carried out in the early hours of 5 August.

In a separate case, a death sentence for a prisoner convicted of murder in Shiraz was halted after the victim’s mother forgave the offender, leading authorities to suspend the execution. The inmate remains subject to trial on other charges.

Both incidents illustrate the Iranian judiciary’s ongoing use of capital punishment for drug and violent crimes, while also showing the impact of victim‑family forgiveness on the enforcement of death sentences.
