Iran expands remote work to address energy crisis

The Iranian government has implemented a policy to reduce office hours and expand remote work systems in response to an ongoing energy crisis. While the specific number of affected workers has not been disclosed, the move comes amid discussions regarding state bureaucratic efficiency.

Zabihollah Salmani, deputy head of the Administrative and Employment Organization of Iran, noted that over 2.43 million people are on the government payroll, a figure that could exceed four million when including social security, firefighters, and non-governmental organizations. Large sectors such as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health employ over 1 million and 600,000 people, respectively.

Some citizens have expressed skepticism regarding the policy, suggesting it may highlight deeper issues of institutional inefficiency and corruption rather than serving as a purely technical solution to energy shortages.
