Russia and Iran expand trade and strategic partnership

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met in Turkmenbashi to discuss bilateral cooperation under their strategic partnership agreement. Putin reported that trade between Russia and Iran grew by more than 21 percent in 2025, with positive growth continuing through the first seven months of 2026.

The leaders discussed expanding cooperation across various sectors, including economic, trade, and humanitarian affairs. Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the partnership, noting that both nations possess the political will to advance their strategic agreement. This meeting follows recent high-level engagements between the two leaders, including talks during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.
