Iran faces 160 billion cubic meter water deficit in aquifers

Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, has warned of a severe water deficit, stating that the country has accumulated a debt of approximately 150 to 160 billion cubic meters to its aquifers. He noted that groundwater resources are under extreme pressure and expressed concern regarding the deteriorating condition of certain plains, which could lead to the total loss of some aquifers.

Aliabadi emphasized the need for the Iran Power Research Institute to focus on solving these critical issues and conducting studies on upcoming rainfall patterns. He also highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application to address the nation's resource challenges.
