Iran faces potential economic pressure and domestic unrest amid US-Israel tensions
Political analysts in Iran are warning of escalating economic and geopolitical pressures targeting the country. Reformist activist Mohsen Hashemi suggests that the United States, under Donald Trump, may be implementing a financial trap designed to intensify economic strain on Iran. This strategy aims to leverage potential energy crises, including shortages in gas, electricity, and fuel, alongside triple-digit inflation and a significant devaluation of the national currency, to force concessions.
Hashemi further notes that Israel may anticipate a new wave of domestic protests in Iran resulting from these worsening economic conditions. The current state of Iran-US relations is described as a complex deadlock—neither full war nor peace—following disagreements over the Islamabad agreement and management of the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, political activist Hamidreza Jalaeipour criticized the foreign policy approach of figures like Saeed Jalili, labeling it as ‘unrealistic idealism.’ Jalaeipour argued that while the current situation involves a ‘war of attrition,’ Iran must find a way to navigate this period with dignity to avoid being weakened by external pressures from both the US and Israel.
