Iran FM Abbas Erakçi warns of Israeli false‑flag ops and British bases after Egypt port attack
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Erakçi said Egypt’s security is of the highest priority for Tehran and cautioned that Israel is planning false‑flag operations intended to undermine regional peace. He linked the warning to a recent drone strike that set fire to two gas‑storage vessels at Egypt’s Dimyat (Dumyat) port, which Iranian officials described as a kamikaze UAV attack.
During a press briefing, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the incident and that the situation appeared similar to earlier reports, while noting that a different group had claimed responsibility and apologized for the attack. Trump added that the United States might need to respond if necessary.
In a separate telephone conversation with Konstantinos Kombos, the foreign minister of the Turkish‑Cypriot administration, Erakçi warned that British military bases in Cyprus – Akrotiri and Dhekelia – must not be used for any operations against Iran. He also reiterated Iran’s objection to a U.S. base in Bulgaria. The Houthi rebels in Yemen denied involvement in the Dimyat port attack.
