Abbas Araghchi accuses Benjamin Netanyahu of manipulating US into war with Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of manipulating the United States into a conflict with Iran. Araghchi, describing Netanyahu as a ‘serpent,’ claimed the Israeli leader used extensive US media airtime to influence American public opinion and decision-making. He alleged that Netanyahu presents different messages to different audiences, praising US leadership in English while boasting in Hebrew about having ‘suckered’ the US administration into war.

The accusations follow a period of intense military escalation. Since the conflict began on February 28, which included US and Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials, hostilities have continued despite an April ceasefire. Recent developments include a US military strike on Iran’s Larak Island and Iranian claims of retaliatory attacks against US-linked bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, though the UAE has denied such attacks.

While a memorandum of understanding was signed in June to end hostilities, fighting has resumed sporadically, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has also shifted toward a strategy of ‘economic asphyxiation’ through new sanctions, including an operation targeting over 60 Iranian-linked entities. Netanyahu has dismissed the possibility of a diplomatic settlement with Iran.
