Iran focuses on energy security and renewable equipment localization

In Sistan and Baluchestan, Governor Mansour Bijar has ordered a review of the province's energy supply model to prepare for the upcoming cold season. To ensure stability during peak demand, Bijar emphasized the need for comprehensive energy management plans, including fuel reserves, demand management, and backup fuel scenarios. He specifically called for exploring local electricity production from renewable sources and energy storage in areas lacking gas network access, while urging the acceleration of connections for residential, agricultural, and industrial units already equipped with gas infrastructure.

On a national level, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) has outlined a strategy to transition from importing power plant equipment to achieving full domestic localization. While imports were previously used as a short-term measure to prevent project delays, SATBA is now focusing on technical knowledge transfer and domestic production. Key initiatives include partnerships with companies like Iran Transfo for high-voltage equipment and Pars Switch for switching gear. The organization aims to minimize foreign supply chain dependence in the solar sector by supporting domestic panel manufacturers and requiring foreign partners to adhere to technology transfer conditions.
