Iran football team secures visas, sets up World Cup 2026 base in Tijuana, Mexico

Iran’s national football federation confirmed that its players have been granted Mexican visas, allowing the team to establish a training camp in Tijuana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The move follows difficulties obtaining U.S. visas, prompting the federation to shift its concentration site from the United States to the Mexican border city.

Mexican authorities have pledged security and logistical support for the Iranian delegation, which will train at the Estadio Caliente and use nearby facilities. While the team is ready to begin preparations in Tijuana, it still seeks special U.S. authorization to compete in its group‑stage matches scheduled in Los Angeles and Seattle.

The camp follows earlier preparations in Turkey, where the squad refined tactics before crossing the Atlantic. Iran’s first World Cup match is set for mid‑June against New Zealand in Los Angeles, with subsequent games against Egypt in Seattle.
