Iran fortifies nuclear sites and considers NPT withdrawal
Iran is intensifying efforts to fortify its nuclear facilities and is considering a withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Iranian lawmaker Alireza Salimi stated that Parliament will consider leaving the NPT while maintaining that the country will not abandon uranium enrichment, noting that legislation has already passed to allow enrichment at 60%.
To protect its assets, Tehran is reportedly redistributing highly enriched uranium to fortified storage sites. Officials have moved sensitive materials and equipment away from vulnerable locations, such as the Mount Paa's site, to minimize the risk of loss during potential strikes. There are also reports of undeclared nuclear sites housing advanced enrichment technologies outside of the facilities inspected by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
These developments occur amid heightened tensions with the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested a “hard approach” if Iran does not reach an agreement on American terms. Iranian sources claim that intelligence gathered from dismantled American unexploded bombs has been used to enhance the defensive fortifications of specific nuclear sites against bunker-busting munitions.
