Iran halts registration for traveler-imported iPhone 18 models

The registration process for iPhone 18 mobile phones brought into Iran by travelers has been suspended. This halt is reportedly part of anti-smuggling measures aimed at regulating the mobile market and ensuring compliance with import guidelines.

Industry experts have raised concerns regarding the impact of these restrictions. Majid Pouyan-Ara, chairman of the Iranian Mobile, Tablet, and Accessories Association, warned that continued limitations could drive demand toward unofficial channels. Such a shift could result in significant loss of government revenue from import duties, taxes, and value-added tax, while also depriving consumers of valid after-sales services and warranties.

Hamidreza Rastegar of the Tehran Chamber of Guilds noted that while the suspension was initially intended to last one week, there is currently no definitive timeline for its resolution. Efforts are reportedly underway by the Headquarters for Combating Smuggling of Goods and Foreign Exchange to find solutions that allow legally acquired personal devices to be registered while still addressing cases involving legal violations or illegal imports.
