Iran Health Ministry warns public about UV radiation risks

Mohsen Farhadi, head of the Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health at Iran's Ministry of Health, issued a warning that outdoor activities must be accompanied by sun‑protection measures to avoid harmful ultraviolet (UV) exposure. He noted that the strongest UV rays occur from two hours before to two hours after solar noon and advised people to limit direct sun exposure during these periods, especially in spring and summer.

Farhadi stressed monitoring the UV index, which ranges from 1 to above 11, and recommended seeking shade, wearing wide‑brimmed hats, UV‑blocking clothing and sunglasses, and applying broad‑spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every two hours or after sweating or swimming. He also warned against the use of tanning beds, linking them to a higher risk of skin cancer.
