Iran holds commemorations for Ali Khamenei in Mashhad

Commemorations have taken place in Mashhad, Iran, marking the 40-day anniversary of the burial of Ali Khamenei. The events follow his death during a conflict that began on February 28, 2026.

The conflict reportedly involved military actions that included a missile strike on the ‘Al-Shajara al-Tayyiba’ school in Minab, Iran, resulting in the deaths of 168 students and teachers, alongside various civilian and military leaders.

Following the initial mourning period in Iran, the remains and family were moved to Iraq, specifically to the holy sites in Najaf and Karbala.
