Iran hosts International Halal and Health Conference

At the International Halal and Health Conference, officials emphasized the strategic importance of food and medicine for national independence. Mohammad Hassan Akhtari stated that food and medicine serve as strategic strongholds for preserving the sovereignty of nations, noting that global powers sometimes use these sectors to pressure populations.

Speakers at the event highlighted the need to reduce dependency on imperialist powers through scientific and technical advancements. Mohammad Hashemi, the executive secretary of the conference and spokesperson for the Food and Drug Organization, called for interdisciplinary cooperation involving philosophy, chemistry, physiology, medicine, and biology to advance halal product development.

Additionally, Dr. Abdolazim Behfar, Director General of Food and Beverage Products at the Food and Drug Organization, stressed that halal compliance must be maintained throughout the entire supply chain. He noted that requirements must be met from the farm to the table, including production, processing, packaging, storage, and transportation, rather than relying solely on superficial appearances or legal permits.
