Iran intensifies security mobilization ahead of uprising anniversary

The Iranian government has intensified security measures and mobilized paramilitary forces as the anniversary of the 2022 nationwide uprising approaches. In response to potential unrest, security forces have been deployed in cities including Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, and Mashhad. Additionally, the regime has planned a massive Basij mobilization in Tehran, with some reports suggesting up to 330,000 participants, intended to demonstrate organizational strength and readiness.

Regime officials have adopted increasingly aggressive rhetoric to deter dissent. Police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan described the current state as a “war-like situation,” while Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei has defended the use of executions to maintain order.

Despite this heightened repression, resistance persists within the prison system. The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has expanded to 62 prisons across the country, marking its 138th week of activity. Prisoners continue to use limited opportunities to protest executions and express solidarity with political resistance movements.
