Iran internet tariffs increase by up to 40 percent

Mobile and fixed internet operators in Iran have implemented a price hike of up to 40 percent for internet packages, SMS, and voice calls. The increase, which took effect on Friday, October 23, affects major providers including Hamrah-e Aval and Irancell.

This sudden adjustment follows two previous price hikes within the last year, totaling approximately 38 percent. Consequently, the cost of internet services has risen by nearly 100 to 120 percent over a short period. While operators noted that packages purchased before the change remain valid, the new rates apply to all subsequent purchases.

According to the 'Internet Freedom 2026' report by Freedom House, Iran's internet freedom score has declined from 13 to 9 out of 100, placing it among the most restricted environments globally alongside China and Myanmar. The report highlights issues regarding access barriers, content restrictions, and the creation of a tiered internet system. It also noted a significant 88-day disruption of global internet access following military escalations in late 2025.
