Iran Judiciary Chief calls for oversight on food supply and imports
Iranian Judiciary Chief Mohseni-Ejei has called for stricter oversight regarding the distribution of essential goods and the prevention of social irregularities. During a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, he emphasized the critical importance of ensuring public access to basic commodities.
Ejei reported findings from a recent visit to a strategic port, where he discovered significant quantities of meat that had expired and become unfit for human consumption while stored in cold storage. He noted that this waste is particularly unacceptable given the current high prices of meat in the country. He stated that those responsible for imports and the issuance of permits for unloading and distribution must be held accountable.
Additionally, the Judiciary Chief highlighted a delay involving 6,000 tons of soybean meal imported by a subsidiary of the Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture. Due to delays in issuing necessary permits, the shipment remained stuck in 150 rail wagons, incurring substantial daily demurrage costs. Ejei warned that such delays negatively impact the market for livestock and poultry products.
