Iran-linked cyberattacks target UK power plant and US water systems
Hackers linked to Iran have reportedly carried out significant cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
In the UK, a small power plant was taken offline for four days last month. While the outage was considered one of the most significant cyberattacks against British energy infrastructure to date, officials stated the facility was small-scale and the disruption had no impact on the wider national electricity supply or grid capacity. The incident was reported to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
Simultaneously, cyber threats have targeted water infrastructure across the United States. Hackers successfully infiltrated water and wastewater systems in at least seven US states, with Minnesota experiencing the highest impact. In Georgia, a sudden pressure drop at a water authority forced residents to boil their drinking water. US authorities suggest that groups closely associated with Iran may be responsible for these acts of sabotage.
